Book Page Necklace

My stash of art stuff is so huge, I love it when I can find a project that uses things I already have. And, this Book Page Necklace by Mandipidy is just the project I need to start using up some of my vintage text that I have accumulated.

Some varnish (you could probably use resin or Modge Podge too), chain, beads (of course) and you have a lovely, one of a kind tiered necklace - like this:

Seed Bead Circle Bracelet

Sometimes you just don't feel like wearing a lot of bling, sometimes the occasion doesn't call for it. And, maybe, you just like a more minimal look (like me). If so, then you will love this Circle Bracelet designed and created by guest blogger Charlotte at the HenryHappened blogspot.

Although I think one single bracelet would make quite a statement, an armload would look pretty cool too!

A very simple technique combining seed beads, beading wire and a clasp and you will have your own armload to wear or give.

Antique Lace Bracelet

Check out sweet Antique Lace Bracelet!

Photo and Project by Roudi at
C is for Craft
I think it's the perfect project if you just happen to have some lace - antique or new - left over from a project. And, you can pick up a pre-made bezel and glass cab at any craft store for a couple of bucks.

Roudi used a floral  image, but I can see how you could easily personalize this bracelet by using a photo of your kids, grandkids, mom, grandmom -- you get the picture. Roudi also breaks how to create your own bracelet in graphic form so anyone can make this bracelet in no time.

Valentine's Day Smores

Ok... this has nothing to do with beading, but I thought this idea was too cute and too delicious to pass up.

Valentine's Day Smores!!

I'm not a fan of marshmallows at all, so normally smores don't do a thing for me. As a matter of fact, I think smores are a good waste of chocolate and cookie but, this is about to change. Haniela guides you to make these easy, homemade treats even right down to making your own heart shape graham crackers.

DIY Jewelry Organization

No doubt, I love making art, but nothing warms my little heart like a little organization. And, if it's cheap and cute - even better.

So, does your jewelry look like one big ole mess like this?

Well, how would you like it to look this instead?

Jesse, the blogger at Just Flew the Cooper, shows you how to create your own using a few tools and chicken wire from the hardware store. And, yes, it's so easy even you can do it. She even has another idea for organizing your jewelry too, so go check it out.

January 2014 Meeting

This month's meeting:
January 18, 2014
10:00 a.m.
First Floor Auditorium at Bayou Manor - 4141 S. Braeswood

January 2014 Program
Bead and Button Bead-It-Forward Bead Quilt project. Bring your beads, beading mats and let's have fun working for a good cause. Tish Reed will supply the necessary backings. If you cannot attend or stay for the program, please be sure to pick up a backing and bring it back in February.

Important Meeting Space and Parking Announcement:
Please note that Bayou Manor will be under construction for about 2 years. During that time, you will need to park at Sellers Grocery Store (8620 Stella Link) at the southwest corner of Stella Link and S. Braeswood then catch the Bayou Manor shuttle. Vendors can pull up to the front of Bayou Manor, unload their wares, then drive to the remote lot and catch the shuttle back to the Manor.

Due to this inconvenience, we are looking for an alternative meeting space. Members will be notified if and when that happens. If you know of a place where we can hold our meetings, please contact HBS President, Lillian Skogsberg. Thanks for your patience!

Chain Dangle Earrings

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! And, I know you will need a sparkly pair of earrings to wear when you go out to celebrate the day with your beloved.

So, check out this sweet pair of red dangly earrings using Swarovski crystals by FaveCrafts.

Best of all you can really use these all year long. I would make them in different color crystals (green for St. Patty's day, red, white and blue for 4th of July, you get the picture) or simply use up all my little mix of crystals that I have left over from other projects.
